GUIDING LIGHT ASSEMBLY CHURCH; THE CHURCH AS A VALUABLE CORPORATE CITIZEN
THE PROBLEM
The main problem most church buildings face is the struggle to maintain their relevance. Too many religious buildings have been demolished or now live out their existence as multi-use halls or converted apartments. What does one do with a building designed to function only once or twice a week?
THE SOLUTION
In the design of the church, we departed from the traditional typology to create a contemporary ecclesiastical but multi-functional space. We made
the church a value adding member of the community. As a testimonial of its utility, the neighbouring school and organisations host all their functions in GLA. The building also houses offices for all church staff, situated around a courtyard in which the Baptismal font is located.
